2008 Stop #1 Lake Lewisville Texas April 10-12

Lake Lewisville was a very fun tournament..........

I was so excited to be leading the 2nd day and felt like my fishing pattern would hold up. The only thing that scared me was every angler I saw was flipping and pitching the buck brush and that was what I was doing. When we are practicing for a tournament and I see this, I try to find a completely different way to catch fish.

I Tried deep cranking, football head jig, and carolina rigging the first drop from the bushes, hoping to find some larger fish trying to come up and spawn. After two days of trying to find another pattern, I tried to just refine my  pattern. I wanted to find fish regardless of what mother nature threw at me, north, south, east or west winds, and anyone that fishes knows the wind is going to blow in Texas. I feel like the baits I was using was the key to catching my fish. In the thickest part of the buck bushes I would throw a Paca Craw Texas rigged/pegged weight, on the sides of the brush where it was not as thick or had a hole, I would throw a 1/4oz. Strike King jig, black/blue/chart skirt with a Paca Chunk in Flipping Blue. After I would get my limit, I was throwing a pro-to type swim bait that I have been experimenting with. It seemed the fish would bite better if I flipped my bait instead of pitched my bait, that tells me they wanted a quiet presentation.

Anyone that flips buck brush knows they are going to lose some fish. You set the hook and sometimes they come out of the brush, sometimes the fish hits on the fall and is tangled up in the limbs, sometimes your hook gets the brush after the fish exposes the hook. That was what happened my third day, I lost three fish so I knew it was not meant for me to win. If you are meant to win, you can do no wrong, fish that you should have lost youve gotten in and everything goes tooooo right. My day is coming for a win and it will be THIS YEAR.....
